English quintet Concrete Prairie have connected two sorts of roots music on their self-titled debut album, taking cues from homegrown folk and Americana. Fast-paced songs like Bury My Blues and People Forget could mistaken for a long lost Levellers tracks (albeit without the politics). Lead singer Joe Faulkner writes lyrics that are close to his heart - Picking Up Pieces is a song for his daughter after she went through a rough patch, Hard Times gets a silver lining with soaring guitar and fiddle solos.
It is best not to worry too much about the future, but favour the moment (Day By Day). Concrete Prairie are optimists, even in the face of serious mishaps. They are not naive, but simply urging their audience to get up and take charge of their lives. They will provide the soundtrack to kickstart a fresh beginning.
Concrete Prairie Sounds:
Joe Faulkner: vocals, guitar, harmonica
Georgia Browne: fiddle
Dan Burrows: bass, banjo, backing vocals
Adam Greeves: vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica
Tom Hartley: drums
Concrete Prairie will be released via Good Deeds Music on September 2.
