Chicago jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist Andy Pratt is not very prolific with just one album and an EP since 2017. Producer Steve Albini worked his magic on those releases and while he was not on board for the new single, Sweeter Than the Wine, his signature raw edges are still there. Pratt's vocals sound like a mellow version of Mark Lanegan, as he describes a hot Summer night at the lake, with the cicadas making a racket.
Playing all the instruments himself, including analog synths, he created a late night speakeasy vibe that will go down well with fans of Tom Waits. It is the title track from his new album.
Sweeter Than the Wine is released on his own label Girl Thrift Records (CD, cassette, digital). Buy it from his website. Release date: September 9.
Live date:- 09/11 Chicago, IL @ The Hideout
(album release and 40th Birthday Bash show with Steve Dawson)
