Costa Mesa based indie rock band Widows Gold have somehow managed to channel The Smiths, The Bangles and Fleetwood Mac on their new single I Can’t Help You, a jangling song with plenty of earworm potential.
After bass player Ian Zamora has kicked off the proceedings with a few choice notes, lead singer Madeline Star slightly nasal vocals project a don't-fuck-with-me attitude, with her husband Ben Sauer unleashing his inner Johnny Marr on guitar. Drummer Carson Ford is a one-man swing band, keeping it all together. The Paisley Underground meets New Wave and it works like a charm. It is a track from their first full-length, Love Drops, due for release in January 2023.
Widows Gold:
