Alt-country maverick Johnny Dowd is not a fan of Holidays, but that did not stop him to release a special treat for Halloween that also serves as a tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis, the recently deceased wild man of rock 'n' roll.
Shook Up was recorded in a single take. It moves slowly, almost like a dirge. With Jif Dowd laying down a bassic drum part whereupon can let his words wander - the Kama Sutra as a ways of escape from in a world in tatters, family gatherings providing some kind of safety, eating home fries for breakfat and much, much more, tied together by quoting two classics in the chorus: "I'm all shook up, I'm all shook up // Goodness gracious, great balls of fire".
Shook Up is a self-released single. Buy it from his website.
