LA based musician Samira Winter grew up in Boston and some of the weirdness of bands like the Pixies can be found on her What Kind of Blue Are You? Cherry-picking elements of genres like shoegaze and dream-pop, she is on the fence between darkness and light, creating a study of contrasts between gentle vocals and wavering, rough-around-the-edges music, that requires a pair of decent headphones to fully appreciate the stereo trickery.
She pulls the listener in into her musical world, a bewildering and beguiling game of a push and pull that will require many listens to get to the gist of it. What Kind of Blue Are You? is an album without definite answers, but that is irrelevant for this journey to her inner self. Feel free to make sense of it, or better yet, surrender to the flow, and be intrigued and pleasantly surprised.
What Kind of Blue Are You? is released via Bar/None Records (vinyl, cassette, digital). Release date: October 14.
