London singer CHVRLI BLVCK wears his heart on this sleeve on his new single, Why Did You Go?, a dead ringer for this year's best breakup song. He is a crooner a la Jeff Buckley and Anohni, who has no trouble perusing the upper reaches of his impressive vocal register. Pain can sound great and compelling. The minimal musical backing only adds to the tension and grief he is going through. Anyone who can write a line like "the furniture walks itself outside to another home" deserves a place among the small circle of superb lyricists.
