La Faute, nom-de-plume of Toronto based dream pop singer and mult-instrumentalist Peggy Messing, has managed to record a great sounding album on a shoestring budget. Blue Girl Nice Day is filled with introspective songs, using beat-up samplers and a 4 string tenor electric guitar with a warm tone that a shitload money can't buy. Messing's vocal delivery drops down to a whisper at times, but never looses power.
She is also a visual artist and this has spilled over to her music. It has a kaleidoscopic quality, twirling and captivating, a rabbit hole for the listener to dive into and end up in Messing's alternate universe where everything is slightly different. She has found a way to transform her health issues and other troubles into stepping stones to get on top of them.
Blue Girl Nice Day is a self-released album. Buy it from her website.
