Uncle Kid, stage name of Scottish musician Craig Nicholson, has an uncanny knack for combining trip hop with spoken word. His latest release is a radical invention of Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World. The original is a happy song, but he turned into quite the opposite by taking the perspective from a man dealing with mental health issues.
Neil Bisset created a claustrophobic video of Nicholson tinkering with his Casio keyboards, a music box, and assorted gizmos. The line "Ï see friends shaking hands" has never sounded so lonesome.
What a Wonderful World is a self-released single. Buy it from his website.
