Watch the mini documentary From The Monkees To The Hollywood Bowl about The Jimi Hendrix Experience trying to gain a foothold in the USA in 1967.
They had lit up the stage at the Monterey Festival on June 18, but were struggling to advance any further after that. They were kicked off a tour with the Monkees, one of the unlikeliest pairings of bands ever. John Philips of The Mamas & the Papas, who was one of the organizers of the festival, stepped in, and offered them the support slot at the Hollywood Bowl on August 18 for what would be the last show by the folk quartet.
Fast forward to 2023 and it turns out that the Experience's set was professionally recorded and could be prepared for release. It sounds a lot better than the 1968 show at the same venue that was included in the Electric Ladyland box set in 2018.
Hollywood Bowl August 18, 1967 will be released on November 10. It is available for preorder (vinyl, CD, digital) here.
