The human voice is the oldest musical instrument and that is all that Giorgio Pinardi needed to make Aiòn, the latest album by his MeVsMyself. He is the lead singer, backing vocalist (sometimes almost a choir) and guitar player/percussionist/and what-have-you by proxy. It must have taking him ages to record all the tracks before carefully assembling them to create a string of coherent mostly wordless songs. It's medieval, it's metal, it's pop, it takes cues from the Far East, West African high life, doo-wop, dance, and pretty much any genre that is popular somewhere.
Despite being seemingly all over the place Pinardi always has a firm grip on his material as he explores the possibilities of creating a full band sound on his own. It could have easily turned into a "look, mom, no hands" showing off, but he created superb reinvention of next level singing that will baffle budding a cappela students and send them back to the drawing board to come up with something that is even half as good. Aiòn is the final part of a trilogy and is best enjoyed after being immersed into Yggdrasill and Mictlàn.
Aiòn is a released via Alterjinga Records and co-produced by Panidea Studios (Paolo Novelli, who also acted as engineer). Buy it from his website.
