Switzerland-based songwriter Roman Gabriel is the driving force of indie-folk project Seasonal Falls. With the aid of singer Andrew Pelletier, he created the soft-spoken album Happy Days, wherein melancholy reigns supreme. It is a subtle and intense ride that takes the listener on a pleasant ride through a landscape that is only real in dreams.
Gabriel is one of those rare guitarists who only need to play a few notes to conjure a mood. Whether it is the happy-sad tone of Girlfriend or the lonesome Tex-Mex sound for The Wind, he is always both in control and emotional. No wonder that he has been compared to the likes of Elliot Smith and Sufjan Stevens. Happy Days is like a comfy blanket. You did not know you needed one, but once you have enjoyed it, it will become one of your most cherished possessions.
Happy Days is a self-released album. Buy it (vinyl, CD, digital) from their website. Release date: May 10.
