NEEF.: 2005

NEEF.: 2005

Dutch indie-jazz trio NEEF. are old enough, albeit barely, to long for days long gone on their debut album 2005. That was the year that Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho made headlines by scoring improbable goals as a player for Barcelona, which left a huge impression on a couple of kids in Utrecht dreaming about playing in big stadiums and wowing the crowd. That never happened, but they found an outlet in creating adventurous music instead.

By inserting elements of progressive rock and a bit of modern day indie guitar, the trio goes for an idiosyncratic yet elegant overall sound. It is smooth, but it is not slick. 2005 is a vulnerable collection of instrumentals about friendship (pelle), skills (Ronaldinho, panna) and falling asleep after playing for hours on end, holding tight to a favourite stuffed animal (welterusten, kleine beer). Scouts from the big football teams will no longer offer them a contract, but they may land a record deal with a niche record label.

NEEF.:
Freek Dijkstra: guitar
Pim Sierink: bass
Wytze Dijkstra: drums
