Dutch alternative rock trio My Friend Television have mastered the art of lo-fi intensity on their new album Six Times My Friend Television. Led by veteran Ricky van Duuren (Boegies, The Moonlizards, De Straaljagers) the band quietly wades through the songs, taking it slow, but seemingly always on the brink to burst into noise rock.
It is bleak stuff, with nods to the Velvets, the Replacements, Cowboy Junkies, and Big Star, making it a record that will be cherished by music geeks of all ages who will gladly point out all the references to their less interested friends, who prefer the polished stuff that they can ignore.
