Dutch band Meadowlake had to reinvent themselves after two band members quit. Now down to a trio the tracks on their new album where the mountain meets the sea are more concise,, but also a bit faceless. Recorded by Buck Meek (Big Thief) and Germaine Dunes in their brand new studio in Topanga, CA, they settled for a subdued sound that rarely gets away from the safety of introspective wanderings.
It sounds good - they got fabled NYC based engineer Philip Weinrobe to mix the album - but it does not properly register and listeners will have a hard time to keep paying attention. It falls straight into the "Put on something I can ignore", as John Cusack said High Fidelity.
where the mountain meets the sea is a self-released album. Buy it from his website.
