Amsterdam-based duo I Believe In My Mess consists of musicians and mix masters Geert de Groot and Frank van Praag, who go all out on their album We Can't Be Wrong, using every trick of the trade to create a bunch of songs for which epithets like eclectic, adventurous and weird only scratch the surface. There is some krautrock, some psych-pop, a bit of spoken word, metal, dance, dub and electronic pop, but most of it all it is about having a whale of a time in the studio, with a bunch of friends contributing to the tailored mayhem as well.
It may come across as a mishmash of genres, but there is method in their madness. De Groot and Van Praag are having fun, but they are also in control. Recommended if you like to have Gruppo Sportivo, Captain Beefheart, Salt-N-Pepa, Banamara, Can, and Tom Waits playing at your party, with all of them on stage at the same time.
