Belgian instrumental progressive rock trio Phonya love the sound of wall-to-wall keyboards. On their debut album Heli1025 all three members pitched in, with Gautier Delco working a double shift by also playing bass and Eric Vanderbemden has a full time job as the band's guitarist, besides his bass and keyboards contributions.
Their influences are easily to point out - most notably Marillion and early Porcupine Tree, but there more classical leanings overall, with composer Vanderbemden's training as a guitarist comes to the fore.
Recorded in fits and starts over a three yeast period, the tracks had plenty of time to grow and expand. Such a long process is quite risky. Overthinking things and endless tinkering can kill the vibe. They successfully sidestepped that pitfall and keep a consistent mood throughout. Heli1025 is an album that should be listened to in full, as a sonic journey to outer space.
