Irish psyshedelic folk band Dr. Strangely Strange has been active in fits and starts since 1968. After recording two albums the band folded only to resurface briefly in 1997 with an archival release, Halcyon Days, before making a proper return in 2007. They have been playing live on and off since then, but it took awhile to catch the eye of a label willing to take a chance on them. Enter Roger Houdaille, owner of Miami's finest niche label Think Like A Key Music, who went through great lengths to compile the Radio Sessions album in 2022, featuring broadcasts from 1970 and 1971 on the wireless in broadcasts in the UK, Denmark & The Netherlands. The release gave the band some traction again, and it laid the groundwork for a proper new studio album, Anti-Inflammatory.
The big question after such a long time is: do they still have it? Yes, they do, with musical chops still in fine order - and being OK that the vocals will be more of a challenge, this new collection shows their unique take of progressive psychedelic has aged gracefully. Ivan Pawle, Joe Thomae, Tim Boothe and Tim Goulding are not ready to call it quits yet and with this new album as proof that they can up with fresh sounding songs that honour the traditions of the musical heritage they start tapping into more than 50 years ago.
Anti-Inflammatory is released via Think Like A Key (vinyl, CD, digital).
