Mould: Almost Feels Like Purpose

photo: Sal Redpath

Bristol punk trio Mould give a whole new meaning to the word abrasive (pun intended) by throwing in a trumpet into the mix on their second EP, Almost Feels Like Purpose. At first the six high speed tracks may come off as run-of-the-mill angry songs, but listen closer to fully appreciate the smart licks and unexpected twists that can make a moshpit on the wrong foot, before indulding into good-natured mayhem again.

Singer Joe Sherrin can spin a tune about pretty much anything, provided there is some annoyance involved. Frances is not about a woman, but a killer bird. Wheeze has him howling about nursing a cold that lasted far longer than he was willing or able to put up with. Chunks is a hilarious retelling of the ensuing boredom of being on tour in the USA. The landscape was pretty much the same for hours on end, hence the great line "watch it live, watch the rerun".

Joe Sherrin: vocals, guitar
Kane Eagle: vocals, bass
James Luxton: drums
