Tim Eveleigh describes himself as just another middle-class bloke-with-a-guitar. He is selling himself short with that self-deprecating epithet. He writes his own stuff, for one, and doesn't bore his audience with tired, tuneless renditions of House of the Rising Sun of Blowin' in the Wind. He sings about everyday life and keeps it close to home, focusing on love songs that pack a punch on his debut full-length A Record.
Making amends and trying to keep a relationship going is never easy, but he gives its best shot with Headrest and the fast-paced Binary. As any singer-songwriter worth his salt, he gets mad at people who send other people into battle with the slow folk-tinged ballad Drones and the deceptively upbeat Deluge. Eveleigh is like the cool uncle, whose way with words can convince a chatty audience to shut up and listen. Recommended if you like William William Rodgers.
